Body model (avatar)
A body model, or avatar, is the digital representation of a shopper used to render try-on images. It can be built from an uploaded photograph or chosen from a set of body types, and it carries the proportions every garment in a look is rendered against.
Two approaches are common. A photo-based body model is specific to one shopper and gives the most convincing result; a preset body model asks the shopper to pick the closest type, which removes the upload step and the privacy question that comes with it. Offering both usually converts better than insisting on either.
Whichever is used, the body model has to stay fixed while garments change. Persistence is what makes comparison meaningful, and it is what lets four separate catalogue items be rendered at one consistent scale.
Handling shopper photographs responsibly is part of the design, not an afterthought: what is retained, whether images are used for training, and how deletion works are questions a retailer should be able to answer before the feature goes live.
