Size-related returns

Size-related returns are returns caused by a garment not fitting, rather than by damage, delivery problems or a change of mind. They account for roughly half of apparel returns industry-wide, which makes them the largest single addressable cause of returns in fashion ecommerce.

They are addressable because they are an information problem. A shopper who returns an item because it did not suit them made a real decision; a shopper who returns an item because they could not tell which size to order was never given what they needed to decide.

A large share of these returns is created at the moment of purchase rather than on arrival. Ordering two sizes to keep one is a rational way to buy certainty when the product page cannot supply it, and every bracketed order books a return before anything has shipped.
